ACA Participates in Comcast Cares Day

For a sixth year, volunteers from ACA participated in Comcast's annual Comcast Cares Day. This year, ACA's volunteers helped out on two projects: Motor City Blight Busters in Detroit and Kids Coalition Against Hunger in Plymouth.
The volunteers working with Motor City Blight Busters helped gather garbage and debris and helped prepare a community garden.

ACA Summer Camps

The Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) is holding Summer Camps in Canton and Madison Heights. Registration has started and is open for both camps.
Youth Cultural Summer Camp in Canton
This camp runs Monday-Friday from July 17 - August 4.
The camp is open to campers ages 5 - 14 years old.
This is the 18th year for this popular camp. Counselors will lead campers in interactive activities as they learn the Chinese language and Chinese culture. Campers are encourage to develop an appreciation of diverse cultures.
STREAMS Summer Camp in Madison Heights
This camp runs Monday - Friday from July 10-August 4.
The camp is designed for 4th grade - 8th grade campers.
STREAMS stands for Science Technology Reading Engineering Arts Math and Soft Skills. Participants get soft skills training in habits, focus, achievement, planning, communication skills, networking, personal development, motivation, and so much more.

Taiwan Outing
| |
ACA organized a 10 day, 8 night trip to visit six major cities in Taiwan from April 24th to May 3rd. A unique itinerary has been planned.

Citizenship, Family and Marriage Visa Clinic
Sun., May 14
This clinic includes a presentation on the requirements and eligibility for citizenship, family and marriage visa. A question and answer session is also scheduled.
Thursdays, May 25 - July 20
Tai Chi is an enjoyable way to improve mobility, balance and health, and is especially beneficial for arthritis and fall prevention.
Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade Sat., May 28
Volunteers from ACA will march in this annual parade held by the City of Madison Heights.
Donors and supporters of ACA are recognized and thanked at this special event.
ACA and American Citizens for Justice (ACJ) are hosting this event to discuss the historic case and its relevance today.

Fraud and Scam Workshop
On April 25th, a fraud and scam prevention workshop was held at ACA' Detroit Service Center. Information on the latest scam cases was shared with seniors and there was a discussion on fraud and scam prevention techniques.
Medicare and Medicaid Workshop Outreach
On April 24th Eleana Loy represented ACA and brought a Medicare and Medicaid workshop to Hope Community Baptist Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Eleana introduced several Medicare and Medicaid benefits to new immigrants and also helped to screen their qualifications.
APIA-U Leadership Training
On April 1st, OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates brought APIA-U leadership training to Wayne State University (WSU). ACA hosted the workshop where about 40 students gathered at WSU's Student Center.

On March 25th, ACA hosted its first Career Bridge. Over 10 companies participated and provided internships, full-time and part-time opportunities. Keynote speaker Dr. Su Xiuling spoke on soft skills in the workplace.

ACA's Lantern Festival was held on February 11th at the Chinese Community Center. The well attended event was free and open to the public. This event is held annually to celebrate Chinese New Year with the community.

ACA's Chinese New Year Dinner was held on February 4th at the Golden Harvest Restaurant in Warren, Michigan. Guests enjoyed a 10-course gourmet Chinese dinner. Lucky red envelopes and raffle prizes were given out.

ACA's Detroit Service Center held its Chinese New Year Open House on February 1st at its offices at the Hannan House. A special lunch of Chinese dishes was served.

The first Chinese New Year Celebration at the Canton Center was held on January 27th. More than 30 people attended and each received a small gift bag.

In observance of Memorial Day, the Detroit Service Center and the Chinese Community Center will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2017.
Both Centers will re-open on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at their regular hours.
