Navigator Program and Medicaid

Our certified Navigators helped 304 consumers set up healthcare insurance enrollments through the government Marketplace website under the Affordable Care Act.
Our Navigators are now focusing on helping people enroll in the state Medicaid program called Healthy Michigan Plan.
If you need help applying for coverage under the Healthy Michigan Plan, please call us at the Chinese Community Center (248-585-9343) or Detroit Service Center (313-831-1790) during office hours to schedule an appointment with one of our Navigators.

ACA High School Scholarship Awards
| | The Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) is accepting nominations for its High School Scholarship Awards Program. For the past 31 years, ACA has offered scholarships to local high school students.
The Detroit Chinese Engineers Association (DCEA) is participating in the program again this year by offering two $500 scholarships.
As many as twelve scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 will be awarded to selected students nominated from the Class of 2015. Nominees must complete the nomination application form, provide transcripts and an essay, and be interviewed. The essay form will be sent to each nominated student. The interviews will be held in October 2014. The scholarship awards will be presented at the High School Achievement Awards Dinner to be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 6, 2014.

ACA Summer Camps

ACA's Youth Summer Camp in Canton/Plymouth will be held for three weeks at a new location this year.
Dates: July 14 - August 1 (Monday - Friday)
Time: 9am - 3:30pm
Location: Risen Christ Lutheran Church

Campers ranging from 5 years to 14 years old will learn about Chinese culture through a variety of activities designed to make learning Chinese fun.

We are excited to announce two new ACA summer camps this year at the Chinese Community Center in Madison Heights.
Camp: ACA LifeTech Summer Camp
Dates: July 28 - August 1 (Monday-Friday)
Time: 10am - 3:30pm

The LifeTech Camp is designed for high school students interested in learning more about technology, life skills, or entrepreneurship. Space is limited so register now!

The Youth Culture Camp is designed for middle school and high school students interested in learning more about Chinese culture. Dragon Boat Festival Sat., June 7 1pm-4pm
The program includes zongzi making, a fashion show and refreshments.
ACA Donors Appreciation Lunch Sat., June 14 12pm-2pm
Donors and supporters will receive invitations to this special lunch to thank them for their support and to show them how their contributions have been used to help the community.
Mon., June 16 1pm-2:30pm
This free presentation hosted by the Association of Chinese Americans and the Macomb County Office of Senior Services will highlight the senior services offered at ACA's Macomb County Center and talk about the state's medicaid expansion program called the Healthy Michigan Plan.
Summer ESL Class Mondays June 16-August 18 1pm-3pm This ESL class will focus on speaking and listening to travel related dialogue. There will be a review session on the Thursday following each class from June 19-August 21 at 1pm-3pm.
We are looking for volunteers to join us in beautifying our Chinese Community Center. Volunteer groups are also welcomed to participate. A light breakfast will be provided to volunteers.

| | On April 26, volunteers from ACA helped package meals for the Kids Against Hunger Program as part of Comcast Cares Day at the Comcast Center in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Mother's Day Luncheon
Over 150 people gathered on May 9 to celebrate Mother's Day with entertainment and a special Pan-Asian catered lunch.

Mammoth Cave National Park Outing From April 27-30, 110 people traveled to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky with stops along the way. The group also visited the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY, the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, MO, the Indiana State Museum and the White River Gardens and Zoo in Indianapolis, IN.

ACA Cooking ContestTeams competed on April 25th by preparing and cooking a variety of dishes onsite. The audience voted for their favorite dishes to determine the winners.
