Comcast Digital Connectors Program Wrap-up
On Sunday, June 9, 2013, a class of 19 high school students graduated from the Comcast Digital Connectors Program held at the Chinese Community Center in Madison Heights.

Gerald Smith (Senior Manager, Government & Regulatroy Affiars, Heartland Region, Comcast Cable) joined ACA Board Director Shuh-Yuan Liou, ACA Executive Director Shenlin Chen, and Program Instructor David Liou in presiding over the graduation ceremony.

The program started the last week of September 2012, continued throughout the school year, and ended the last week of May 2013.

Throughout the course the students were educated in digital, media, and financial literacy with the use of not only a curriculum, but also utilizing EverFi and Cisco to better help the students understand the topics. At the end of both EverFi and Cisco curriculums those students who were able to pass the course were given a certificate of completion.

This program also helped improve the students' leadership, community outreach, and public-speaking skills. As an additional incentive, students who completed the program by meeting all the requirements received a notebook and flip camera. Those students who had an attendance rate of 95% or better were also given a $100 scholarship. In this year's graduating class, nine students were able to attain the scholarship.

Overall, the purpose of this program was to educate the students on how to utilize technology to their advantage and also show them how much of an influence technology has on the world.

Affordable Care Act Workshop Recap
There was a strong turnout for this free workshop held on June 24. Andrew Farmer from AARP presented information on the Act and answered questions from some of the attendees. ACA Treasurer and Board Director Shung H. (Sue) Sung provided translation of the presentation and Q&A session into Mandarin.

ACA would like to thank Lisa Whitmore Davis and AARP for bringing this workshop to us and providing the much-needed information.

ACA Summer Camp Underway
Another fun-filled and culturally enriching session of ACA's Youth Summer Camp has started in Canton.

The Canton Camp started July 15 and will run until August 2. Click here to see the weekly activities schedule for the Canton camp.

The Camp in Madison Heights starts July 29 and ends August 16.

If you are interested in having your child attend either camp, you can still submit a registration. Click here to go to the Summer Camp page on our website for more details and to download the registration form.

This is the 14th year that ACA has offered this Summer Camp program. The activities have evolved over the years, but one key element remains --having fun while learning about Chinese culture.  The campers get to make new friends and many campers come back year-after-year because they enjoy the activities and want to see their old friends.

If you are still looking for a summertime activity for your children, we hope you will consider sending them to one of our camps.
