CAPA Leadership Summit
| | The council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) is holding its annual Statewide Asian Pacific American Leadership Summit on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9AM at the General Motors Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, MI.
Registration fees are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Lunch is included in the registration.

Comcast Digital Connectors Program

ACA is partnering with Comcast to offer the Comcast Digital Connectors program. This program will begin on Sun. September 30, 2012 and end on Thurs. May 30, 2013.
The Comcast Digital Connectors program is for any youth, ages 14-21, with an interest in digital technology. The program will focus on 12 core competencies:
- Leadership and diversity - Personal development
- Workforce development
- Financial literacy
- Community Mapping
- Digital literacy - Hardware and networks - Software and programming - Media production and civic journalism - Environment and sustainability - Service and global engagement - Teaching and facilitation
The program is split into two classes per week (Sunday 2pm-6pm and Thursday 4pm-6pm). Participants will also need to provide a minimum of 56 hours community service. The program is limited to 20 students.
Participants in this program should: have a desire to learn technology; want to become a better leader and professional; have an inquisitive mind to address pressing social issues; and have a commitment to give back to their communities.
Incentive items: backpack, t-shirt, flash drive with lanyard, and upon graduation from the program a flip video camera and Netbook. There is also the possibility of getting Cisco certification.

ACA 40th Anniversary Commemorative Book

A special keepsake book commemorating the past 40 years of ACA will be available soon. This hardcover book will include historical and personal narratives as well as many photos. This fond look back over the past four decades will highlight some of ACA's major achievements and serves to inspire us as we continue serving the Asian Pacific American community in the years to come.

ACA 40th Anniversary T-Shirts and Sweatshirts

You can still participate in the celebration of ACA's 40th Anniversary by purchasing an anniversary t-shirt and/or sweatshirt. The 40th Anniversary logo appears on both garments.
The child-sized t-shirt is available in white. The adult-sized t-shirt is available in white or black. The adult-sized sweatshirt is available in black.
The child-sized t-shirts are $12 each and adult-sized t-shirts are $15 each. The sweatshirts are $35 each for ACA members and $40 each for non-members.
Proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts and sweatshirts go towards supporting ACA's programs and services.

Summer Camp Recap

This year's campers had a lot of fun exploring Chinese culture and rekindling old friendships and establishing new ones. Close to 100 campers and counselors participated in camp.
Thanks to our camp counselors who worked so hard and led a great camp. We wish all of our campers a wonderful school year and we hope to see you again next summer.

ACA Moon Festival Fri., September 28 at 10:30am Join us in celebrating the Moon Festival. There will be entertainment, Chinese food for lunch, and moon cake raffles. Tickets are $5 ($2 for children 10 yrs. old and under).
Our Senior Club is 7 years old and going strong. To mark this anniversary there will be special performances followed by a catered lunch. Tickets are $4 for a general ticket and $2 for seniors 60 years and older or children under 10 yrs. old. We acknowledge and thank our dedicated volunteers who have helped us throughout the year. Program includes entertainment & Chinese dinner. Tickets are $6 for a general ticket and $4 for seniors 60 years and older or children under 10 years old. ACA General Membership Meeting Thur., Dec. 6 at 7pm
A review of the past year's programs and achievements will be presented along with a Treasurer's report. Nominees will also be elected to the ACA Board. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm prior to the start of the meeting. RSVP is required. Sun., Dec 9 at 6pm This is ACA's 29th year honoring some of our best and brightest local high school students. Several scholarships will be awarded. Additional details to come.
